Grohmann Hunting Knives: A Canadian Legacy Forged By Hand
The story of a family workshop in Pictou — and the blades it still hand-finishes today.
Hand-Finished in Pictou · Made In Canada · Trusted By Outdoorsmen Worldwide
01 — The Origin
From Mikulasovice to Nova Scotia
Before the Second World War, Rudolph Grohmann worked as a production manager in the town of Mikulasovice, then part of the old cutlery-making region of Nixdorf. He turned down early invitations to relocate to Canada — but in 1949, with political circumstances in Europe growing desperate, he accepted an offer from a buyer based in Quebec.
Arriving in Nova Scotia with his family, Rudolph partnered with Pictou Cutlery, an arrangement supported by the provincial government. When that company eventually closed, Rudolph and his son-in-law, Michael Babinec Sr., moved between various trades to make ends meet.

02 — The Craft
A Garage Workshop Becomes a Canadian Icon
Rudolph's determination to keep making knives never faded. Working out of a home garage, he began designing, producing, and hand-engraving his own folding knives — blades built from Old World technique but shaped by a new Canadian life. That workshop grew into what is today one of Canada's most respected knife makers.
More than seventy years later, every Grohmann knife is still hand-finished in Pictou, Nova Scotia. Nothing about the process has been outsourced to mass production — each blade passes through the same discipline of balance and precision that Rudolph brought over from Europe.
Exceptional Balance
Each handle-to-blade ratio is tuned by hand, giving Grohmann knives a natural, controlled feel in the field.
Built to Last
Carbon steel and stainless blades paired with Micarta, resinwood, and leather-wrapped handles for decades of use.
Trusted Worldwide
From wilderness trails to marine decks to the kitchen counter, Grohmann blades are chosen by hunters, anglers, and collectors alike.
